Hello, world#
Welcome to the first Overlooted devlog. If you found your way here, you’ve either stumbled across a very early version of this website, or you followed a link from one of our social channels — either way, thanks for being here early.
This devlog is where we’ll document the journey of building Overlooted: the decisions, the dead-ends, the moments where something clicked, and the embarrassing number of times the cart physics launched a chest into the ceiling.
The idea#
The seed of Overlooted was a question: what if the dungeon run wasn’t about killing the boss?
Most dungeon crawlers measure success in how far you get, how many enemies you defeat, or how powerful your character becomes. We wanted to try a different axis: how much stuff can you carry home?
Your cart has a fixed footprint. The dungeon is full of loot of all shapes and sizes. Items stack, some don’t. Some are fragile. Some are cursed (obviously). You have to balance the value of what you’re carrying against the risk of going deeper, and the weight slowing you down.
It sounds simple, but the moment we built the first prototype and someone spent ten minutes rearranging items trying to fit one more chest in before heading for the exit, we knew there was something here.
Where we are now#
Right now the project is in early development. We have:
- A working cart and inventory system
- Several handcrafted dungeon rooms
- Placeholder art (very placeholder)
We don’t have a release window yet. We’re not rushing it. Cozy games deserve to be made calmly.
What to expect from the devlog#
We’ll post updates roughly every two weeks. Entries will cover:
- Design decisions — why we built something a certain way, and what we tried first
- Technical deep-dives — occasionally, for the devs in the audience
- Screenshots and gifs — as soon as there’s something worth showing
- Honest setbacks — because they happen, and pretending otherwise is boring
